Honolulu, HI (August 13, 2010) — Of the thousands of surf breaks the world over, it’s hard to find one that can hold a candle to the historical impact that Malibu has had on the California surfing scene. Between Miki Dora, Gidget, the invasion of Hollywood, and holding the distinction of being one of the most prestigious right-hand points in California, Malibu’s place in the pantheon of surf locales is unquestionable. With that in mind, Primo Beer is proud to announce that they will be the presenting sponsor in the fourth annual Malibu Invitational to be held at First Point on August 28 and 29.
“Malibu is such an iconic wave in California and Primo has become such an iconic beer in Hawaii. Through our shared love of surfing and the ocean, we’re really proud to partner with the Malibu Invitational and celebrate our love of the sport this year,” said Primo’s ambassador and event organizer Pascal Stansfield. “With all of the amazing surfers on the invite list, it’s gonna be a really special day at Malibu when the event kicks off.”
As an invitation-only contest, the event looks to pull many of today’s top professional surfers together to compete under one banner. Between the likes of the Malloy Brothers, Rob Machado, and Evan Geiselman along with a legendary mix of Malibu locals invited to the event, the Malibu Invitational will surely be one of the most unique and eclectic contests in surfing.
More than just a chance for some of the best surfers in the world to compete at a locale steeped in surf lore, the Malibu Invitational also benefits a worthy cause in Malibu local’s Jimmy Gamboa’s TheraSURF organization, a community of surfers that focus on healing children with special needs by introducing them to surfing.
Prior to the start of the two-day event, surfers, fans and contest organizers will be meeting up at Duke’s in Malibu for food and Primo’s on August 27.
Primo is also proud to support its surrounding communities by donating a portion of the proceeds from each case of Primo to nonprofit organizations that help preserve and perpetuate Hawaiian culture and environment.
