Yesterday morning in Gracetown, Western Australia at a spot called South Point, a 31-year-old surfer (later identified as Nicholas Edwards) was killed by what experts and witnesses are calling a “huge” Great White shark. This tragedy comes as another blow to the community of Gracetown, as there was another fatal shark attack there in 2004.

World number 2 Taj Burrow lives right up the road from Gracetown in Yallingup and twittered yesterday morning, “shark attack here in the west this morning. so heavy. thoughts are with the family.”

As thoughts do go out to the family—Mr. Edwards was married with two children. The attack happened so rapidly that no one even realized what had happened—there was just the above piece of Mr. Edwards board floating in the water and then he appeared on the rocks with a severely mangled leg. No fin, no thrashing, nothing.
