OCEANSIDE, California/USA (Thursday, August 12, 2010) – The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Grade-4 Supergirl Pro Junior is set to host an impressive field of talent including current ASP Women’s Dream Tour campaigners Carissa Moore (Honolulu, HI), 17, and Coco Ho (North Shore, HI), 19, at Oceanside Harbor on August 14, 2010 while the 16-woman field battles for an unprecedented $20,000 prize purse, the richest ASP Women’s Pro Junior prize purse in history.

Surfers competing on the ASP North America Pro Junior Series are out to finish atop their regional ratings in an attempt to qualify for the inaugural ASP World Junior Tour, while Supergirl’s impressive prize purse has also attracted some of the globe’s finest female surfing talent.

Ho, who was the 2009 ASP Women’s Rookie of the Year, has just wrapped up competition at the ASP 6-Star US Open of Surfing and Supergirl’s inspiring prize purse convinced the young Hawaiian to remain in California before returning to Hawaii.

“It’s great to see that Supergirl has put so much into this event,” Ho said. “The prize purse is great and it’s excellent to see them give to women’s surfing.”

Ho is also capitalizing on the Supergirl Pro Junior to keep her competitive skills sharp during the midseason break on the ASP Women’s Dream Tour.

“This is an excellent opportunity to compete and not have to travel again after the US Open,” Ho said. “I’m looking forward to the contest.”

Malia Manuel (Wailua, HI), 16, who was the runner-up in the 2009 Supergirl Pro Junior, is looking to better her result this year, but with young international standouts such as Moore and Ho in the draw, the talented regular-footer knows that a victory at this year’s ASP Grade-4 contest will be no easy task.

“The 20 and under girls seem like a more challenging draw lately,” Manuel said. “I’d love to win this event, but it will be a challenge with the World Tour girls in it.”

The ASP Grade-4 Supergirl Pro Junior will run at Oceanside Harbor on August 14, 2010 and will be webcast LIVE via supergirljam.com.
