Pranksters struck the infamous “Magic Carpet Ride” statue in Cardiff By The Sea early Saturday morning in the form of a 15-foot tall Great White shark made out of paper maché. The butt of many a joke and better known as the “Cardiff Kook” after the surfer’s awkward style, the statue has been a target for shenanigans and tomfoolery since it’s unveiling, but this one takes the cake.

Earlier in the week, dorsal fins were placed across the street from the statue as if there was a shark stalking the Kook. The fins eventually ended up near the statue and the Cardiff Kook met his demise… until authorities removed the shark Sunday. I for one love the statue, nothing else inspires hilarious acts of civil disobedience like the Cardiff Kook.
