Big names fell hard today down at Jeffrey’s Bay during the 2010 Billabong Pro. First it was Sean Holmes taking care of Kelly Slater, despite lower back problems. Holmes then sent Andy Irons packing the very next round. His patience and know-how at Jeffrey’s Bay go unmatched. If he can keep this rhythm going he’ll finally take the J-Bay crown home, which is just down the road.
The in-form goofyfooter of the event, Bobby Martinez, suffered a loss today in Round 3 at the hands of rookie Adam Melling. This left the door wide open for the likes of Matt Wilkinson (whose fast, down-the-line approach with reversing tailblows took care of Freddy P), Owen Wright, and Damien Hobgood as remaining goofyfoots. Wilko and Owen were taken care of in Round 4 though, but Damo took down reigning World Champ Mick Fanning, who had been consistently putting up huge scores. Damo now awaits a quarterfinals match-up with the winner of Adam Melling vs. Dusty Payne.
Taj Burrow and Jordy Smith appear to be the men to beat, along with Holmes. When things resume it will be an action-packed quarterfinals and beyond to crown this year’s Billabong Pro Jeffrey’s Bay winner.
Stay tuned for much more from Jeffrey’s Bay as one of the most exciting surf contests unfolds. You can watch the event live at billabongpro.com/jbay10 and get all your updates on transworldsurf.com.

I didn't witness it, but apparently Andy Irons and the water photographer had a bit of a bump in during Andy's heat against Sean Holmes. Andy wasn't very happy about it. Photo: English
Reigning World Champ Mick Fanning knows he missed an opportunity for a big result at J-Bay, especially with Kelly now eliminated. Photo: English

Simpo surfed well and certainly helped his cause to stay on Tour with the Round 4 result. But when you draw Dane at J-Bay it just ain't fair. Photo: English
