Day 2 of the Billabong Pro Jeffrey’s Bay delivered again with excitement and fun surf at the world’s best righthand pointbreak. As expected, South African Jordy Smith went bonkers in his Round 3 heat. As current #1 in the overall World Rankings, Jordy did not disappoint his home crowd. Every man hack he threw caused the South African crowd to match Jordy’s energy with their now famous (and slightly annoying) vuvuzelas.

One of the other standouts of the day was Australian rookie senstation Owen Wright. I believe he is determined to battle Bobby Martinez for the title of “World’s Best Backside Surfer”. It is incredible to watch just how quick Owen is on his backhand on such a fast wave. Watching him one believes he just doesn’t fall, ever.

Dane Reynolds keeping loose with no heat today by surfing an alaia??? Somehow I'm actually not surprised though—and I guarantee he surfs that plank of wood better than 99% of surfers can surf a regular board. Photo: English

Aussie Jay “Bottle” Thompson put up the score of the day though with an 18.77, which included the first 10 of this year’s Billabong Pro J-Bay. Bottle tucked in and found the best barrel of the event to garner that 10. But despite his huge score in Round 2 he came up way short against Adriano in Round 3.

Stay tuned for much more from Jeffrey’s Bay as one of the most exciting surf contests unfolds. You can watch the event live at billabongpro.com/jbay10 and get all your updates on transworldsurf.com.
