The Rip Curl GromSearch presented by H2O Overdrive scored stellar Kewalos for stop #2 this past Saturday, July 10th. With a stacked line up of Hawaii’s best young juniors, the action proved top notch.

Young O’ahu local, Ezekiel Lau, came out with guns blazing in the 16/U Boys Final.  With a massive, stock, no-grab air reverse, Zeke nabbed the $100 cash for the ‘H2O Overdrive Maneuver of the Event’ and a 9.5 wave score.  To back up the 9.5 Zeke smashed a left for a perfect 10-point ride slamming the door shut on Kaoli Kahokuloa, Cole Yamakawa, and Dylan Kowalski and taking the $50 Dragon High Heat Total to boot.

“I am so stoked to win this comp at my home break,” Ezekiel Lau announced to the spectators at the awards. “We couldn’t have asked for much better surf out there and I can’t wait to go to the Pro Search.  I have never been to Puerto Rico.” Of course, by winning this stop, Zeke received an invitation to compete at the Rip Curl GromSearch National Final, which takes place during the Rip Curl Pro Search in Puerto Rico.

The ladies saw some of the biggest sets of the day, and Makani Adric failed to flinch. Her commitment granted her the tight win, as all four competitors were within 2 points of one another.

The 14 and under saw Moniz Family domination as Seth and Josh took it to Koa Smith and Kain Daly for a 1, 2 finish respectfully. While in the 12/U Boys, we saw Seth Moniz double-up his victory count by defeating Kaulana Apo, Imai Devault, and Noa Mizuno.

The Rip Curl GromSearch proves again to be the premiere junior series for the best young groms around North America to showcase their talent.  Make sure to stay tuned to the young Hawaiian qualifiers at the Rip Curl GromSearch National Final, which takes place at the site of the RIp Curl Pro Search in Puerto Rico.
