ASP WORLD CHAMPION MICK FANNING TEACHES KIDS TO SURF IN MALAYSIAN WAVEPOOL
Monday, 17 May 2010
Reigning two-time ASP World Champion Mick Fanning arrived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia today with fellow Rip Curl team riders Owen Wright and Matt Wilkinson to host an exclusive surfing demonstration for over 70 local school kids at Sunway Lagoon Resort – home of Asia’s largest wavepool.
The trio met with the kids (aged seven to 16) this afternoon – signing autographs and giving a selection of them one-on-one surfing lessons.
The surfers are enjoying a short break in their competition schedule before heading to Jeffreys Bay, South Africa for the fourth stop of the ASP World Tour.
“That was all-time!” Fanning said. “This place is amazing and this is an ideal place for young kids to learn the basics of surfing. They were standing up straight away!”
“That was a lot of fun – the kids were stoked,” Wright added. “My little guy was ripping. He was up straight away and on every wave.”
ASP Women’s World Champion Steph Gilmore will arrive in Malaysia tomorrow and the surfers will put on a jet ski tow-in surfing demonstration tomorrow.
