It was like the red carpet was rolled out for a good portion of the World Tour (err, World Title Race) on Thursday at the Lowers 6.0 Pro. Six-foot swell graced the cobblestones of the famed Lower Trestles as they awaited the brutalization of tail-high surfing.
For day 1′s wrap-up and photos from the Lowers 6.0 Pro head here. Tomorrow’s 6.0 Lowers Pro action will begin with the Round of 48 and will be webcast LIVE via nike6lowerspro.com.
Jordy Smith kept everyone waiting throughout the day for the first 10 of the event (he was in the very last heat). Dane Reynolds was throwing turns off bottom turns that shot him to the lip faster than any other human being. Jordy called the surf “pumping”, Dane said it was “huge out there”.
Dane Reynolds went absolutely bonkers today. He was doing things I couldn't comprehend. Photo: Mimi L.
Other standouts from the day included Chris Davidson, Eric Geiselman, Jadson Andre, John Florence, Owen Wright, CJ Hobgood, Jonathan Gonzales, and Tom Whitaker. From here on out every heat is literally stacked. It will be an exciting Friday and Saturday at San Onofre State Park.
