FITZROY, Taranaki/New Zealand (Wednesday, April 14, 2010) – Event organizers at the TSB Bank Women’s Surfing Festival have called competition off for the day with heavy onshore winds creating an unfavourable lineup at the main event site of Fitzroy Beach.
The third stop on the 2010 ASP Women’s World Tour, the TSB Bank Women’s Surfing Festival completed the opening two rounds of competition yesterday at a remote site along Surf Highway 45, and event organizers are looking to potentially run Round 3 tomorrow morning before finishing on Friday.
“Conditions are not optimal this morning and we’ve called competition off for the day,” Dave Shipley, ASP Head Judge, said. “We have improved conditions projected for the coming days so we’ll be back at 7am tomorrow morning at Fitzroy to see if we can give Round 3 a start.”
When competition resumes, up first will be Melanie Bartels (HAW), 27, against Bruna Schmitz (BRA), 20, in Heat 1 of Round 3.
Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow morning at 7am for a possible 7:30am start.
