O’Neill Cold Water Classic
Tasmania, Australia
Tuesday March 23 to Sunday March 28
Association of Surfing Professionals 6 Star Rated
$US145 000

Many of the world’s top surfers are heading to one of the most extreme and wild coastlines on the planet for the Association of Surfing Professionals 6-star rated O’Neill Cold Water Classic Tasmania.

The north west coast of Tasmania, known as the Marrawah Region is cold, remote and yet pristine and most importantly gets pounded by weather and large surf.

With an abundance of solid surf breaks throughout the region the week ahead will produce spectacular action as surfers vie for the prestigious O’Neill Cold Water trophy along with premier six star ratings points and $US20 000 first prize money.

Australia’s Blake Thornton won the O’Neill Cold Water Classic world series last year and is enthusiatically returning to Tasmania for the coming event.

“These events were absolutely special last year – all the venues are wild and spectacular and the surf is generally big and sometimes perfect – to win you know you’re going to have to beat the elements and Tasmania is a location that epitomizes surfing at it’s core – there’ll be swell for certain and we’re going there ready to charge!”

Current world number 3 rated surfer and defending O’Neill Cold Water Tasmanian champion  Jordy Smith (Sth Africa) heads a superb field of surfers and just some of the profile talent includes, Bobby Martinez (USA), Sunny Garcia (Hawaii) and Aritz Aranburu (Spain).

The event begins Tuesday.

Press and media details for images, news feeds, web highlights and copy will all be forwarded before the event starts.

This is a special event in a special location so expect stunning vision and stories.
