Finisterre Launches New Merino Base Layer Range
Over the last eight years, a small band of surfers located in Cornwall have positioned themselves as thought leaders in terms of their innovative approach to ethical manufacture within the action sports industry. The company in question – Finisterre, have become renowned for their enthusiasm to create progressive garments that push at new frontiers, both in terms of performance, and pushing the bar of ethical business practise within the industry. Their use of recycled materials and merino wool has landed them some top ethical awards in the U.K.
The past few years have seen a growing appreciation of the performance of Finisterre’s merino wool underwear products. The brands two designers have been hard at work to make sure that this years merino base layers, that include long johns, leggings, vests and t shirts are the softest available. Utilizing some of the finest wool known to man, the designers have developed their base layers every step of the way from the sheep to shelf and the team has sought out some of the most dedicated athletes and expeditionists to product test the garments.
The brand has a number of dedicated product testers who put the merino through its paces. The testers include a contingent of round the world cyclists, adventurers, mountaineers and top surfers who continually test the Finisterre products in the harshest of environments. Tom Podkalinski, Finisterre’s design director and resident textile expert is a big merino fan. He explains that merino wool, “keeps you warm when you’re cold, and cool when you’re hot, plus it’s very breathable and anti-bacterial. In many respects it is nature’s perfect fibre. By pushing the boundaries in terms of quality, softness, cut and price our base layers and underwear have been our customer’s number one favourite. As an added bonus they are all backed up by some genuine product testing in the harshest of environments.”
