Go Brett Send Off And Premiere Party

Q-n-A With GO BRETT Filmmaker Aaron Lieber

How long have you known Brett?

I met Brett when I was a sophomore in college, I think I was 18 or 19 years old. So about five years now.

How did the whole idea for the GO BRETT movie come about?

I always wanted to make a “Brett” Movie, but never had funding and after I finished The Pursuit, I needed a way to make some extra cash while working on The Pursuit 2. So I just started doing web things for Brett and it turned into a full on deal where I was documenting him trying to qualify then as I was doing that I was just like, well at the end of the year I’ll put together whatever I have and that’ll be Brett’s first movie.

How long did it take?

Took a whole year to film and about a week and half of editing—batcave style 18 hour days.

What was the hardest part of the editing process?

Just keeping it short and to the point. When you have a year of content its really difficult to choose what to use and what not to use.

What do you think was the highlight and why?

The highlight for Brett would definitely be winning the U.S. Open. But for me I think the highlight would be the whole project actually working out. I mean, no one has followed one surfer’s campaign to qualify and made a movie about it. So I guess I am just super stoked that it actually happened.
