Rip Curl’s 19 year-old phenom, Alex Smith, surged to his best result of his young professional career by taking home runner-up honors at pumping 6-8′ Sunset Beach for the Da Hui Sunset Open WQS .
Against Hawaiian stalwarts such as Fred Pattachia, Pancho Sullivan, Sunny Garcia, and many others, Alex bulldozed his way to the final, where he locked in the highest single wave score of the final- an 8.5. Unfortunately he wasn’t able to find the 3 pt. ride needed for the victory.
Nevertheless, the young Kauai native will be attacking 2010 with reckless abandon. Keep an eye out for his “Live the Search” profile clip launching out to the world this month.
