12/12/2009 at the Banzai Pipeline at 1:18 PM: With his mum and wife watching on the beach along with thousands of frothing fans, Mick Fanning has just won the 2009 ASP World Title after his good friend and fellow Gold Coaster Joel Parkinson wasn’t able to get past Kauai’s Gavin Gillette in round three of the Billabong Pipeline Masters.

In an odd twist, Mick, Joel, and the other “Coolie Kid” Dean Morrison, were all in the water at the same time, and after Parko got pitched on a huge desperation attempt at Pipeline, the two title contenders embraced in the lineup. In an emotional moment, Mick consoled his friend on his loss, while Parko no doubt congratulated his mate.

The two had been battling it out since midway through the year. Joel started off hot with two wins right off the bat, and Mick came on strong later in the seaon, winning an amazing three out of four events going into the season ending Billabong Pipeline Masters.

New Era Top 45 Trading Contest winner Sean Pearson from Oceanside, California has had the pleasure of staying at the TransWorld SURF North Shore house after winning the ASP trading card contest. Despite taking a board to the face at Log Cabins and being the grom of the house (dish duty, trash duty, go say hi to that on the chick beach duty, etc.), Sean has had the trip of a lifetime. Not only does the 17-year old rip, he can film and edit. Check out his clips and edit from Mick Fanning’s World Championship winning day at Pipeline.
