In honor of Halloween, we present the scariest wave in the Northwest, the “Monster Slab.” A heaving, double-up beast of a wave, this place is ice cold, remote, and very unforgiving. Enjoy the show…from a distance.

have always loved you guys - have every copy ever printed since vol 1, # 1 - but two things drive me away from your website: 1 ) just the mere thought of having to see / hear chris cotes cube ( a good bloke that he is ) as soon as the homepage loads is enough to make me not want to even log on ( maybe give visitor option to click on his spot to view ?? ) and 2 ) the site is just clunky and not user friendly to my eyes and hand on mouse, especially he way you view photos. Besides that, just keep bringing a diff perspective than 'ing and 'er and she'll be right. And keep working on the site, you'll get there eventually ….

Absurd shots…Almost glad I am sitting in my cube…almost
I agree with El Diablo's comments. The auto-play feature is a bit irritating. Do you and Dion Agius have the same web designer?
October 30th, 2009 at 3:57 pm
This site MUCH better than Surfer and Surfing. Those other mags are super boring and unoriginal

Awesome name BroNamath! Thanks for the feedback…we appreciate it and take it all into consideration.
October 30th, 2009 at 4:20 pm
Dan Hasselschwert (yellow board/yellow helmet) and Ollie Richardson are my new heros! Those guys pioneered this MONSTER SLAB back in 2006 and are the only locals who ride it. Barney told me he could not believe how hard these local boys were charging! Way to represent for the Northwest!
October 30th, 2009 at 5:32 pm
Hell yeah! Looking thru these photos I couldn't believe how gnarly those guys were…Spot on! The marquis photo is crazy!
October 30th, 2009 at 5:36 pm
Dan and Ollie charge for sure. But they are not the only locals who do. Keith Galbraith, Ryan Heim and Paul Bradley to name a few. Count me out!
October 30th, 2009 at 5:51 pm
I forgot to mention Johnny Knape, a.k.a. Jedi Johnny. Yeah mon!

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HEAVY!!!!!
October 30th, 2009 at 10:41 pm
Hate to burst your bubble but myself, Brian Wichener and Mike Schultz pioneered Scotts Reef (paddling) in '95. Myself on longboard and Brian and Mike on shortys. We each copped about 6 waves lefts and rights and made them all. The next session of consequence was the well documented Greg Long, Mark Healey, Mike Parsons session. Any (locals) sessions followed their lead also with motors. John Forse

Sounds like notoes is a hater! Probably just jealous….
October 30th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
John Forse is a douch bag, California please come pick up your trash and take him back. Lets see your big wave pics John….still waiting….still waiting….not the black white shot taken before you ate shit on the one wave you surfed….still waiting…..
Respect is earned over years and years of charging….Dan and Ollie have been and continue to make you look and sound stupid.
October 30th, 2009 at 11:01 pm
i see john forse is still trying to remain a big deal in a sport he once tried a few times, pleeease, why cant you just be happy your fellow surfers can charge, does it make you sad that your not getting publicity, awwww its ok buddy it be ok, untill next time sit down drink a coke, smile and shut the f#@$ up.

October 30th, 2009 at 11:34 pm
Brian said you didn't catch anything that day. Longboard on that wave? Come on John save the fairy tales for the old folks home.
October 30th, 2009 at 11:39 pm
sounds like corvallis carl, the witch, and observant servant are all Ohio Dan who claims to be the 32nd rated towsurfer in the world. Cool technique, post your pics and videos then post comments about what a stud you are. Typical wannabees, I sign my own name-John Forse
October 30th, 2009 at 11:42 pm

John Forse: NOT WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE
October 30th, 2009 at 11:56 pm
Hey John - Give it a rest. All three Skriver brothers paddeled in, in the 70's, long before you moved here.
October 31st, 2009 at 1:08 am
Damn, how I wish that shark that bit John @ gleneden back in '95 would have chomped down just a little bit harder…

November 1st, 2009 at 4:34 pm
Despite all the naysayers in the comfort of their cubicals with their toasty warm keyboard for securtiy…it still looks heavy to me. No gracias!
November 2nd, 2009 at 12:22 am
No kidding. most of these puberty-boy posts need to be removed. Time to grow up, just surf and quit the devil talking. Good grief, or shall I say "bad" grief, puberty-boys in action. Not entertaining but rather disgusting.
November 2nd, 2009 at 6:45 am
John: It is the puberty boy syndrome. Just don't let it get you to.
November 2nd, 2009 at 6:47 am
You guys, grow up and stop being puberty boys. Unless, you want the world to know what a small world you live in. This all sounds like middle school chatter to me.
November 2nd, 2009 at 5:29 pm
^^^^^A bunch of shit house so-called local surfers claiming Oregon, seeking fame and attention. Nice, learn to hit the lip on a decent wavet, fckn barn's. And yes we will send you home in our area if you bring your fckd entourage ever!

I hope these guys (Ollie, Dan, whatever…Ossies surf shop guys) are actually having fun doing what they're doing. Looks to me like they're in it for the fame and glory and ego. I don't know these guys and I don't have a beef with them (well, except that they're selling out the beautiful coastline that's been my heart and soul for the last 25 years), but just speaking as an objective observer, all those videos they post of themselves kinda make them look like kooks. Granted, kooks who tow into gnarly waves, but I'm afraid my respect and admiration run a little thin when someone pumps and promotes themselves so much but apparently doesn't realize that they have worse style and wave judgement than the average c-list wank at anyspot USA. I'm not a big-wave hellman, and I have due respect for anyone who surfs heavier waves than me (gut-grovelling boogie boarders included), but I think these guys might be suffering from delusions of grandeur. Or maybe I'm missing something. - Bob Rogers

While we're claiming, I paddled out there around 92 or 93 when I lived in Dopey. Nothing heroic. Just a novelty. Head-and-a-half. Nobody around. No photo crew. Nobody knew about it. Mostly just looked into mutant caves. Caught a couple just cuz I had to. Didn't get sick pits. I guess if I'd have towed in maybe I too could be ranked in the top 32?
November 9th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
Hmm… Seeing the videos like you Bob. Some heavy stuff, but… the only real "deep" ones are on the little day… Paddled into plenty better waves than that…
November 10th, 2009 at 2:10 am
Bob,
You hit the nail on the head. Sellouts with bad style. Looks like they were jet-skiers first then learned to surf. Turn the cameras off. No more Pacific Northwest footage in the media.
November 16th, 2009 at 1:29 am
Everyone wants to be seen and admired. That's what surfing is nowadays. People that just surf to surf gotta live those people. If these fellas are untalented media sluts than let it be. People in it for the wrong reasons eventually get sorted out or come to their senses and realize what it's really about - "the experience."
December 4th, 2009 at 4:08 am
Unreal…….. wake up you sceptics! Monster slab,Yeti do you see the volume. No joke hats off to the boys at Ossies. No time to live like the present. The November fotage was killer.
December 8th, 2009 at 3:05 am
John- You say all the posts are from Dan. I have to jump in on this one. I have many friends who know Dan. I have many friends who know you, i.e. George Bishop, Mark Mcginnis, Gary Linden.
The guys who know Dan say he is cool. The guys who know you say you are cool.
I went to your movie premiere in Portland(Where I live now,Originally from O.side,CA).
The movie made you look like a ego maniac. The post on here about you surfing Scott's Reef makes you look like a ego maniac. In reality people have surfed Scott's Reef since the late 70's, ask around. There is pic of it in a surf mag from the 1980's. Titled 'Scott's Reef"
Couldn't you here hear yourself in the movie? You said to Dan "Aren't you from Ohio?" What does that mean? Lame!
The whole premise of your film talking about how no one owns the waves was shot to hell by your own film, making you look like you feel some special place for putting on the contest.
I went into the film with more that an open mind(in favor of you) seeing as I love George, Mark and Gary like brothers. I had planned to say "hello" after the film but me and the four friends I came with were just saddened by the whole "EGO" event.
Hope you find what your looking for…..
Yes and by the way

thats total bullshit…..Dan and ollie have been trying to tow that spot for 1 year and have never made a wave…those two are full on kooks looking to expand their business with your help. They are not allowed to surf any of the real spots because the tend to get in the way and can't paddle surf.
December 19th, 2009 at 9:16 pm
Anyone who complains about these guys are a bunch of babies, better call in the wambulance. WAAAAAAAAAAAA
January 21st, 2010 at 9:44 pm
I agree Bob. People will surf wherever they want to, but it is better to not broadcast our favorite local spots. We share these waves and memories with our friends and family, and I for one would like the publicity of our spots within local knowledge. There is no substitute for good ol' fashion surf exploration, and learning your home wave locales. I hope we can all stay discrete, and surf together at our beautiful coastline. Thanks Bob. You are the man. Likewise to our friend Gerry.
January 21st, 2010 at 9:48 pm
you don't get it, do you. maybe someday you will understand, when there is 100+ surfers at your favorite spot that you used to have with just your crew. Everyone has the right to surf, but let's keep the pace at which it happens to a minimum.
