Rip Curl’s Mick Fanning Makes It Back-To-Back ASP Dream Tour Victories

A mere 7 days after claiming the Hurley Pro Trestles championship and a cool $105k, RC’s Mick Fanning carried that mojo across the Atlantic to scalp the 2009 Quik Pro France, another $40k of cash money, and more importantly a massive leap in points towards current ratings leader Joel Parkinson.

With 3 ASP Dream Tour events remaining, including the Rip Curl Pro Search (Oct. 19-31), Mick lurks a mere 146 points behind Parko with a massive amount of momentum and optimism as he heads down the home stretch, while pursuing his 2nd career ASP World Title.

“It’s back on,” Fanning said. “Everyone thought Joel (Parkinson) was going to run away with it and it’s unfortunate for him that he fell out early, but I’ve put in a lot of work to get these last two wins and I’m just psyched on heading into the rest of the season.”

Amidst hundreds of surf-obsessed fans, Fanning belted the life out of two consecutive waves near the start of the final to combo opponent Bede Durbidge, and cap a phenomenal two weeks of surfing for the 28-year old Gold Coast native.

The ASP World Tour now heads to Spain for the Billabong Pro Mundaka, set to commence from October 5-17, before finishing up the European leg at the Rip Curl Pro Search in Peniche, Portugal.
