Event #2 On The APSPR Corona Extra Pro Surf Circuit Season September 16 At Isabela, Puerto Rico

The 16th edition of the APSPR “Corona Extra Pro Surf Circuit is ready to kick off at Middles where the best surfers from the region will prove their talent as they surf for the honor, the money and their aspirations for the title. The event will take place October 3 & 4, at Middles Beach, near Isabela town and will feature $15,000 in prize money, with $10,000 going to the Men and $5,000 for the Women. Coppertone Sunscreen Company will be awarding a $500 prize for “Best Performance” to a surfer in both the Mens and Womens divisions.

Since 2001, Corona Extra has sponsored fifteen events, two or three each year, which comprise the annual points race. The 2008 APSPR Champion was Carlos Cabrero, 33, of San Juan P.R. The Middles event of the 2008 circuit was won by Isabela local Dylan Graves, 23 who captured a last-second victory in a thrilling two man Final against Cabrero.

On the Female side, the Corona Extra Pro Circuit again features women’s competition. The top five of 2008 were Anastasia Ashley, Lilac Alvarado, Liselie Gonzales, Connie Arias, of Florida, and Amy Murphree, P.R. All are expected to be competing at Middles.

“In addition to the cream of Puerto Rico’s surfers, we have become accustomed to welcoming visiting athletes from all over the East Coast of the US, California, the Caribbean and as far away as Hawaii”, said Viviannee Vega, Executive Director of APSPR. This year organizers are also granting seeds to four mainland surfers, based on their placing in the New Smyrna Beach, Florida Pro, which took place in April.

Entries should be paid by Sept. 23. After Sept. 23 a late entry fee will be charged. Last day to receive entries is Sept 26.
