Anytime one of the top amateurs in the world gets the biggest win of their career, they are certainly up for this honor. Courtney Conlogue did just that this past July in front of her hometown crowd at the Hurley U.S. Open of Surfing. Courtney confiscated the title from defending champ Malia Manuel in the final with her precisely executed backhand in one of the best contests ever held in Huntington Beach. “I’m going to remember this one forever and I’ve got my own piece of the pier for life,” Courtney said after her huge victory. This makes her the second youngest U.S. Open champ ever (behind Malia) and puts a huge mark of validity on her young career – as if she even needed one.
As if that wasn’t enough, Courtney decided to top it all off with two gold medals at the Billabong ISA World Surfing Games recently. Courtney’s victory helped lead her USA team to it’s first team gold medal since 1996 while cementing her as one of the top female surfers in the entire world at a very young age.
