2nd Annual K-5 Surf Klassic Results, Photos, And Wrap

The sun was shining and so were the surfers’ performances’ at D-Street.

Although the surfers were greeted with meager conditions in the morning a new and pulsing southern-hemi swell produced contestable 2-4 ft. conditions. The quarterfinals and semi finals were a sight to behold as some top local and international talent took to the D-Street line up and proceeded to destroy every wave that was ride able!

The finals were a mix of the same as Oz native Leigh Sedley, who was in strong form all day throwing some serious fans couldn’t find the waves he needed in the deteriorating surf. He finished with a solid fourth place showing, $250 and a new Nixon watch for his efforts. Local boy Sean Marceron was a man on a mission looking unstoppable all day. The surging tide and waning surf, unfortunately, got the best of him as well as he finished close third. Brent Reilly, from Carlsbad, used his lightning-quick snaps and tremendous flow to capitalize on the surf and came in second, becoming a thousand dollars richer!

Aaron Cormican K5 Surf Klassic

The quiet and reserved Aaron Cormican, who was nothing like it in the water, cruised through his heats all day long. Seemingly saving his energy for what he knew would be a tough final he used his unlimited repertoire to throw a big frontside reverse. He then backed that up with a solid score to solidify his victory and take home the $2000 first place prize. Cormican can now fly back home to the east coast with the big check as his check on luggage!
