Channel Islands Surfboards, home to some of the most flawless wave riding vehicles on the planet, threw a party Thursday night at their retail store on Melrose in Los Angeles. There was no grand unveiling of Kelly’s
new-and-improved Wizard Sleeve. No superfish unsheathed for Dane Reynolds. It was just a party. A big party. “There were at least 400 people there,” said Tim Curran, who played an hour-long set with his band and the Foo Fighters’ Chris Shiflett. “It was a big deal.”
Slater, Reynolds, Machado, Curren and Curran were all in attendance, along with a smattering of celebrities. “We knew a lot of the guys would be in town, so we just wanted to do something fun,” said CI’s Travis Lee. “From what I could tell, it all went off well.”
The CI/Burton flagship store, an 11,500 sq. ft. hall of high-tech surf/snowboard gear, is to be seen to be believed. Their grand opening 18 months ago was huge, and this was a great sequel. Just make sure you don’t drink and fondle that shiny new CI: it could be your next purchase.
