The Life Rolls On Foundation will be kicking off their annual “They Will Surf Again” season this Sunday, May 3rd at Bolsa Chica State Park. 25 paralyzed surfers are chomping at the bit to get back in the water this year and experience one of the greatest pleasantries around. These surfers definitely inspire and are always just stoked to be in the ocean. Remember that the next time you grumble about sub-par surf conditions.
Los Angeles, CA (April 28, 2009) –
WHAT: On Sunday, May 3, Life Rolls On Foundation founder Jesse Billauer and Power106 radio personality Jeff Garcia will join 125 volunteers and 25 paralyzed surfers, including Ms. Wheelchair California Alyson Roth, at Bolsa Chica State Beach to celebrate the start of Life Rolls On Foundation’s “They Will Surf Again” (TWSA) season. TWSA is Life Rolls On’s signature quality of life program, which empowers individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) to experience the freedom of riding a wave through the assistance of adaptive surfboards and dedicated volunteers. Surfing experience is not required, as for many, it will be their first time in the ocean.
“Life Rolls On is thrilled to offer the opportunity for people with SCI to surf,” said Meghan Schinderle, Program Director at Life Rolls On Foundation. “But as we have been told by so many of our talented surfers, we are not just providing a day of surf and sun, we are helping them find their ability to defeat disability and to focus on the infinite possibilities that lie ahead.”
“I’m just looking forward to being back in the water,” said Nathan Gocke, a paraplegic who will get on a board for the first time since his surfing accident one year ago. “I can’t wait for this day. I just hope the waves are good!”
They Will Surf Again has made a profound impact on the lives of thousands nationwide by uniting the able-bodied and disability communities to push the bounds of possibility for those with SCI. TWSA has proved that even if the body is challenged, the human spirit continues to soar. Additional event details can be found at liferollson.org/twsa.
This program is available at no-cost to participants through generous sponsorships by the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA) and Global Surf Industries. Event sponsors include Rudy’s Pub & Grill, RIDER SHACK Surf Shop, WhatsYourPH.com and Famous Stars and Straps.
