DURANBAH BEACH, Australia (Monday, March 2, 2009) – The 2009 ASP Women’s World Tour is moments away from commencing as Round 1 of the Roxy Pro Gold Coast presented by LG Mobile is slated to begin at 7:30am at nearby Duranbah Beach.
The opening event of the 2009 ASP Women’s World Tour season, the Roxy Pro Gold Coast opted to relocate this morning from the primary venue at Snapper Rocks around the corner to Duranbah Beach to take advantage of the consistent two foot (0.75 metre) waves on offer.
“The winds are not nearly as bad as yesterday and there are clean two-footers rolling through here at Duranbah Beach,” Rod Brooks, Roxy Pro Gold Coast Contest Director, said. “We’ll be starting the women’s Round 1 at 7:30am with Round 2 on standby.”
When Roxy Pro Gold Coast competition commences, reigning two-time ASP Women’s World Champion Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), 21, will begin her campaign for a third crown against Rosanne Hodge (ZAF), 21, and Ashleigh Smith (AUS), 20, in Round 1 of competition.
