KUAU – The 19th annual Hookipa Surf Classic is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, with alternate dates of Jan. 10-11.
The event is a memorial to Justin Roberson, who died at age 19 in 1989 from a vehicle-related accident while in California for World Qualifying Series events.
The event will have seven divisions, including a pro-am division with a $1,000 prize. The fee for the pro-am and 200-pound-plus divisions is $40. The fee for the junior men’s (14-17) and open women’s divisions is $20. The grom boys (11-13), grom girls (11-13) and open keiki (10 and under) fee is $15. Registration may be completed at surfrider.org or at the beach. Entry forms are available at Hana Hwy. Surf in Paia.
