WINTER SURF SEASON IS HERE!

“5th Annual Bank of Hawaii/Atlas Sales North Shore Tow-In Surf Championship 08/09″ Begins 12/20/08 thru 3/31/09 Holding Period As Event Organizers ‘Tow-In Surfers LLC’ Announce the 08/09 Tow-In Competitor Invite List!

Haleiwa, Hawaii 12/20/08
Tow-In Surfers LLC announces the start-up of this year’s holding period for the “5th Annual Bank of Hawaii/ Atlas Sales North Shore Tow-In Surf Championship 08/09″. The 08/09 Tow-In Event will be held at Outside Avalanche or Puaena Point, the two main Outer Reef Big Wave Surf Spots which break way outside of Haleiwa Harbor on Oahu’s North Shore. Contest Organizer and Executive Director, Alec “Ace” Cooke is confident that there will be one or two XXL size swells to choose from to run the contest.

The Tow-In Surf Contest is set to run One Day Only between December 20th, 2008 and March 31st, 2009. This Extreme Big Wave Event requires a minimum wave height of 25 feet Hawaiian Scale surf (50 foot faces) for it to be called “ON”. This year’s format will feature 4 tow-in teams per heat with a preliminary round of 8 heats. With 32 two man teams seeded into the main event, the field has opened up enough to allow more local and international teams to participate. Tow-In Surfers have been invited from Ireland, Chile, South Africa, Australia, Brazil, Tahiti, California, Oregon and all over Hawaii. This year, the contest will include a one hour Paddle-In Surfing Exhibition in the Huge Outer Reef Surf. The top 5 paddle surfers from the recent Nelscott Reef Tow-In in Oregon will join up with 5 paddle surfers from Hawaii and the Pacific region. Winner takes all!  As the sport of Tow-In Surfing continues to grow in popularity world-wide, more surfers than ever have taken a hold of the tow-rope to be whipped into enormous waves by their highly qualified driver/tow-partners operating powerful Personal Water Craft. Don’t miss the action as Event defending champs Makua Rothman and Ikaika Kalama from Oahu return to the arena to do battle with top notch tow-in teams from all over the planet! The official contest hotline will be Surf News Network’s 596-Surfline, 596-7873. The contest website is www.NorthShoreTowIn.com.  Hawaiian Extreme Sports TV returns as the exclusive motion media company capturing the action. Event Director, Alec “Ace” Cooke can be reached at 808-227-2425 regarding media inquiries, sponsorships and competitor registration.  The 5th Annual Tow-In Event is dedicated to the late Jimmy Hall of Hawaii Shark Encounters. It is also a promotion for KEEP THE OCEAN BLUE, a recently formed grass roots project by Cooke and his network to clean-up Oahu’s near shore waters! Stay Tuned!
