Good Surf Predicted For The Billabong Pipeline Masters

Strong New Swells Are Arriving Early Next Week, and Host of Other Activities Are Slated During the Waiting Period December 8- 20

The Billabong Pipeline Masters will likely begin shortly after the Dec 8th official waiting period, as a new set of powerful northwest swells arrive early next week.

“It looks like the swell could start building Monday afternoon,” says Wetsand forecaster Austin Gendron. “There is a possibility that the system could increase in energy over the weekend and build to moderately high levels.”

A ‘Live’ webcast of the event will be streamed on billabongpro.com during the active days of the contest. The waiting period is December 8th through 20th.

“We are proud to be sponsoring the world’s longest-running professional surfing event,” says Billabong Marketing VP Graham Stapelberg. “The forecast looks good.”

The crown jewel in the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, the Billabong Pipeline Masters will be celebrating its 38th anniversary in 2008, with a host of parties, surf shop events, and book signings with personal appearances from Pipeline legend Gerry Lopez to emerging rock star Donavon Frankenreiter along with Billabong ASP pros.

A Billabong team poster signing is scheduled for 6:30 to 8PM Saturday, Dec 6th at the Billabong Waikiki store at 2424 Kalakaua Ave, with Taj Burrow, Joel Parkinson, Mark Occhilupo, TJ Baron, Jason Shibata, Torry Meister and Granger Larsen there to sign autographs.

A week later Gerry Lopez will be on hand to sign the new Pipeline book. The signing event is slated for 8PM to 9:30 Friday, December 12th, at Ala Moana Mall with Andy, Taj, Parko and Occy in attendance.

Saturday evening Dec 13th at 8PM Billabong will sponsor the North Shore Lifeguard Party at Haleiwa Joe’s, helping to support the prestigious Lifeguard Association.

On that same weekend, Donavon Frankenreiter will make an appearance Saturday, December 13th at 2pm at the Verizon Wireless Pearl Highlands Store at 1000 Kamehameha Hwy, Pearl City.
