Volcom’s VQS Tour Launches In Queensland’s Sunshine Coast This Weekend

August 14, 2008: – - The one day contest will be on Saturday 16th of August, held at the rocky outcrop commonly known as ‘Ann St’ that is actually found by driving down Buderim St, Dicky Beach, Caloundra, which leads to the beach car park in front of the reef = easy and fun.

Registration at 7 a.m. and launching the 14 and Under Groms division at 7:30 a.m. Spots in all divisions are limited and filled on a first come first serve basis.

There are four divisions; 14 and Under Groms, 15-17 Juniors, Girls and Pro-Am. Sign up on the day only, surfers under 18 need parent’s signature click the link to download entry form to print and bring on the day.  Heats will be 10mins best one wave until the semi finals with radical manuvers atomically rewarded.

Sunshine Coast’s son’s  Mitch Coleborn and Chris Friend are going to be on the sand to hang out and tear the bag on the day. “I just spent 10 days around the Mentawai’s on a boat trip with Nate Tyler, Andrew Doheny, Asher Pacey surfing. I’m looking forward to a fun day and a shin dig after. The best thing about the VQS is that it’s free with heaps of prizes, so many events these days kids pay 120 bucks and don’t get a thing! I reckon local Kalen Schloss will take the title” says Mitch.

“I’ve been in the states lately, went in a VQS at the Golden West contest near Huntington Beach came second a month ago, it was so sick. Now its at home I just wanna have fun. I’ve got the last 3 pro juniors coming up so I want to use this weekend to shake the cobwebs off cause I haven’t had a pro junior contest since May so it’s a good warm up.”

Finalists will qualify for the Australian VQS Championships at Manly Beach on the 3rd and 4th of April 2009 where the champs will be crowned and the Junior and Pro-Am winners will be flown to the Newport Beach, California to represent Australia and battle it out for over US $100,000 cash purse at the Totally Crustaceous VQS World Champs!

Last year’s Australian VQS Junior Champ James Woods, from the Gold Coast, surfed hard into the finals at Newport’s Muscle Beach coming third, taking home $4,000 cash a snowboard, surfboard, skateboard, clothes, headphones and a multitude of other killer prizes for his efforts that started on the sunshine coast last year!
