Boost Mobile Pro Trials to take place in Huntington Beach, CA on July 24th and 25th
IRVINE and COSTA MESA, Calif. – Boost Mobile and Hurley today announced the names of the trialists invited to compete for the coveted wildcard entry into the 2008 Boost Mobile Pro Presented by Hurley, the only ASP World Tour event held on mainland U.S. The trials feature eight high performance surfers, including 2000 ASP World Champion, Sunny Garcia, who was unable to participate in last year’s trials but was granted a wildcard spot.
“I am super happy to be competing in this year’s trials. I am looking forward to getting one of the two open wildcard spots,” says Sunny Garcia. “With my wedding a few hours after the trials it would be great to win a wildcard spot before I head off to get married but win or lose it is still going to be a great day.”
The remaining seven trialists include Corey Lopez, Ian Walsh, Kolohe Andino, Brett Simpson, Tamoroa McComb, Evan Geiselman and Yadin Nicol. Boost Mobile and Hurley team rider Rob Machado is receiving an automatic Wild Card spot at the Boost Mobile Pro of Surf presented by Hurley.
The Boost Mobile Pro trials will take place during the U.S. Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, California, on Thursday, July 24 and Friday, July 25. The trials will run two, thirty minute four-man heats, with the top two winners of each heat competing in the final. The top two scorers in the final will each secure a wildcard spot to compete at this year’s Boost Mobile Pro of Surf presented by Hurley.
The Boost Mobile Pro Presented by Hurley Wildcard Trials are as follows:
Heat 1: July 24, 4:00pm: Sunny Garcia, Kolohe Andino, Brett Simpson and Tamoroa McComb
Heat 2: July 24, 4:30pm: Evan Geiselman, Ian Walsh, Yadin Nicol and Corey Lopez
Finals: July 25, 3:50pm: Top 2 Winners from Heat 1 and Top 2 Winners from Heat 2
“The U.S. Open is the perfect stage for these exciting young competitors to showcase their talent,” says Jeff Belizaire, Boost Mobile Event Marketing Manager. “We take great pride in advancing the life experiences of young people and giving promising locals like Brett Simpson, proven talents like Sunny Garcia, and grom phenom Kolohe Andino the chance to win a spot to go up against the world’s best at Trestles in September is a great way to do just that.”
“This is an important time for these surfers to experience what it takes to excel at this level” says Pat O’Connell, Hurley Surf Marketing Manager. “Each athlete hopes to get the chance to take on the world’s best, but they will have to make it through difficult conditions at Huntington Beach in front of thousands of spectators first.”
