June 10, 2008: – - Spy Optic is stoked to announce the third annual Jersey Jerky Juniors event will go off again this weekend. The waiting period will be over June 14-15th, and the contest will again be held at the Pit in Long Branch, New Jersey. As always, this is a free event catering to junior surfers, seventeen years old and younger.
A few years ago, Spy’s John Oda and friend and team rider Ryan Kimmel came up with the idea for the Jersey Jerky Juniors event. Ryan wanted to do something in his hometown that would help promote surfing and give back to the community where he grew up. Ryan thought that a Jerky Boys-themed surf contest was something that would be funny and relatable to the local kids, so that’s how the “JJJ” event was born.
The last two JJJ events have been awesome, bringing out crowds of excited locals and bringing support and surf love to the local kids. The community has embraced the event and after asking for it to return, everyone is waiting in anticipation for this year’s contest.
The three divisions for entry are: 12 and under boys, 17 and under juniors, and 17 and under girls. Information and the contest waivers are posted online at SpyOptic.com/jjj. If you’re nearby on the East Coast, come on down and check it out.
