“We are all still saddened over the September 11th attacks, however, we wantto respectfully prove that our lifestyle, although altered in many ways, will go on. We want to show the rest of the world that terrorism will notconquer our spirits or our way of life,” stated Jeff Cutler, director ofmarketing at Reef. “The Reef Biarritz Surf Trophée would like to thank thesurfers and staff who have decided to commit to the continuation of thecontest.”

Cutler continued, “Reef is proud to present the second Reef Biarritz SurfTrophée. It is an exclusive contest designed to bring out the best in thecompetitors and also adds a new zest and excitement to the contest circuit.”

Like the 2000 Surf Trophée, the contest format will highlight each of thecompetitors’ best waves from a one-hour heat. Each surfer will have achance to surf against one another in a series of one-hour heats. There isno wave limit per heat, however, only the best scoring wave will count foreach contestant. Scoring will be based on the difficulty of the technicalmaneuvers as well as the radical freestyle performance for each wave. Thisformat encourages impressive and stunning surfing not often seen intraditional contest formats. Eventually, the top eight point-ranked surferswill proceed to the semi-finals and then the top four will advance to thefinals.
